The following is a basic assessment to help you determine if your child in grades 2nd - 5th is ready to begin their preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Must be BAPTIZED IN THE CATHOLIC FAITH, he has been enrolled in 1st grade during 25-26, in Faith Formation classes at Inmaculada Concepcion Catholic Church.
You regularly attend Mass on Sundays as a family.
Your child is at least 7 years old and in 2nd grade or higher.
They have a relationship with Jesus and a basic understanding that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead so we can have a relationship with him.
They have some understanding of the difference between right and wrong, morally good, and bad.
They are learning to know the difference between sins and accidents or mistakes.
They are capable of apologizing. They are beginning to know God as a loving Father who forgives us.
They can (for the most part) pay attention to weekly Sunday Mass.
They show curiosity about the Eucharist.
They can follow directions on how to (physically) partake in the Eucharist (without playing or disturbing others during the sacrament at Mass).
To accompany your family in this next step of your child’s formation, we will be conducting a Sacrament Readiness Intake Meeting with both you and your child. Our goal is to determine where your child is on their faith journey and what faith session(s) will be a good fit to prepare them for this next part of their journey. In this conversation, we are looking and listening for indicators that your child is developing into a disciple of Christ to enter our Sacramental Preparation sessions. We are listening to understand if your child knows who God is, has a relationship with Jesus, attends Mass weekly, is familiar with Bible stories, and has an active prayer life at an age-appropriate level.
